i live in a mobile home no insulation ,is it cheaper to use a 1000-2000 w space heater in one room a regular space heater in the other than using the furnace?

My bird looks horrible today and I;m wondering if it’s my radiator. It’s one of those portable oil-filled ones. My parakeet’s eyes are watery, he’s all ruffled, he keeps jerking his head, and he just looks horrible. He wasn’t like this yesterday. The thing is, I’ve been using my space heater almost every day sice it’s been cold out- for weeks already. If it were harmful, wouldn’t something have happened earlier? No incense or fumes of any kind. His environment is the same as always besides for the heater, which has been in use for a while now with no problem.

With the high cost of propane this year, I’d like to keep the thermostat as low as possible and heat only the rooms(s) we’re in with portable space heaters. I have owned a DeLonghi oil filled heater before and thought it was safe to use at night, my husband is freaking out at the mere suggestion of using a space heater in our toddler’s room, claiming it’s a “fire waiting to happen”. Assuming I bought a brand new one and used it according to directions, would I be able to sleep at night knowing my toddler is warm and safe?

Our plan this winter is to use less propane by buying some kind of portable space heaters–quartz, oil-filled radiator, etc.

We live in an old Mobile home in upper SC. It doesn’t get too cold here, but we will need something because we have no heat. We want something safe and inexpensive obviously. Are there any heavy duty space heaters or something similar designed to be used as a primary and only heat source? Thanks in advance for your help.

As I said, the heater is built in the wall, and is directly underneath a smoke alarm wired into the ceiling, not powered by batteries. The heater is my only source of heat, and whenever I turn it on it sets off the alarm, and it is a hassle to turn it off because the ceiling is very high and impossible to reach without a ladder. The heater is new, and not been used because of this reason (I had to get a portable space heater, which is not all that effective). What can I do?
