there is no concern at all, i do the same thing. the best thing is it saves money.

that is the biggest thing to worry about. If you choose to do this, then pay close attention to the weather. When you have really cold nights, you should let your water run ever so slightly in kitchen and bathroom. That way flowing water can keep the pipes from freezing.

No, there should be no concern.
I live in Queensland, Australia, and that’s how most of the heating is done here (the houses don’t usually have central heating or anything like that).
Just be aware that if you want it to be warm in the room when you get into it (in winter, with your sheets, for instance), that you want to have about ten minutes with it on before you get in there! Then leave it farily low because your body temp drops when you’re asleep and you don’t need it to be 68 degrees all night, either!
No worries at all with that. Excellent conservation.

House plants might suffer unless they are cool weather plants.
And, as far as watching the tv in the other room you can buy the infrared heater type, that heats basically only what is in front of it and doesn’t try to heat the rest of the room. They usually, at least in the ads I have seen, are tall and sort of tubular, about 36 inches high. Look around and you could find one like that.

Is this a fossil fuel furnace or electric? In any event, it would be unwise to shut the furnace off in Oregon. I had an H.V.A.C business there for 30 yrs.
To save money:
1. Minimize the air flow in the rooms you don’t use that much and open up the 12′x15′ registers.
Buy a programmable thermostat and program a setback to 50 degrees when not home. Bring back up to 70 1hr before coming back. Set back again at night when sleeping.
