newer home i dont know what type of unit but it is in the attic and the a/c is outside on the ground.thermostat is new and was installed by pro when he serviced the a/c this last summer.i put it on (hold) temp setting and it clicks on and shows a flame icon on screen.it seems to be working fine(the stat).a humming sound from the attic comes on (seems normal).before the gas ignites (i know this because it does work every now and then) the heater shuts off with no more humming or a click.the stat shows like everythings ok but the heater is silent no fan nothing.please help any you HVAC guys.i can give help back on automotive. thanks http://painintheexhaust.blogspot.com
